Ingo Ingensand – conductor of the gala concert

Ingo Ingensand erhielt schon mit zwölf Jahren ein Stipendium für Komposition bei Prof. Alfred Koerppen in seiner Heimatstadt Hannover. Seine Studien (Orchesterleitung, Klavier, Komposition, Fagott, Violine, Gesang) an der Berliner Musikhochschule absolvierte er bei jenen Lehrern, denen er auch assistierte: Herbert von Karajan, Carl Melles, Zubin Mehta und den Komponisten Erhart Großkopf und Boris Blacher. Ingensand begründete das „Consortium musicum Berlin“.

Bevor er ab 2000 für zwei Jahre künstlerischer Leiter des Bruckner Orchesters Linz wurde, wirkte er an den Opernhäusern in Heidelberg, Basel, Triest, Essen, Köln und Linz. Gastdirigate führten ihn durch Europa und zu Festivals in Italien, Spanien, Tschechien, Österreich und Deutschland, im Sommer 2012 etwa zu den Bregenzer Festspielen. Aufsehen erregte er mit engagierten Projekten wie dem Linzer Gesprächskonzert „Frieden hören“ 2009, dem Gastspiel von „Picknick im Felde“ im gleichen Jahr auf Zypern sowie 2017 mit dem „Konzert für Menschenrechte“ im Stefaniensaal in Graz. Mit dem Bruckner Orchester konzertierte er 2015 im Wiener Musikvereinssaal mit Bruckners vierter Symphonie.

Besonders gern widmete sich Ingensand der Jugend, sei es mit Konzerten für das „education department MOVE ON“, als Wahldirigent der „Basel Sinfonietta“, als Gastdozent in Winterthur und Zürich oder in seiner Dirigierklasse an der Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz.

Der Lehrer für Dirigieren, Komposition und Musiktheorie hat sich auch als Komponist einen Namen gemacht: 2010 erhielt Ingo Ingensand den Kompositionsauftrag für die Eröffnung des Internationalen Brucknerfestes Linz („Die Bringer Beethovens“); im selben Jahr erlebte er die Uraufführung seiner ersten Symphonie im Brucknerhaus – als Dirigent des Bruckner Orchesters. Im Oktober 2016 fand die Uraufführung seines Violinkonzertes mit der Konzertmeisterin der Wiener Philharmoniker Albena Danailova als Solistin statt. Einen Monat später erhielt er den Landeskulturpreis für Komposition.

Seit 2016 arbeitet Ingo Ingensand freischaffend als Dirigent und Komponist.

Ingo Ingensand was awarded a scholarship for composition at the age of twelve. He studied with Prof. Alfred Koerppen in his home town Hannover.

He completed his studies (orchestral conducting, piano, composition, bassoon, violin, voice) in Berlin at the Berliner Musikhochschule. His teachers: Herbert von Karajan, Carl Melles, Zubin Metha and the composers Erhart Großkopf and Boris Blacher. He not only studied with these artists, but also worked with them as their assistant. Ingensand founded the CONSORTIUM MUSICUM BERLIN.

In 2000 he was called to be the Artistic Director of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz for two years. Prior to this calling, he conducted at the opera houses of Heidelberg, Basel, Triest, Essen, Cologne and Linz. He worked as a guest conductor all over Europe and was invited to festivals in Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. In 2012 he worked for the Bregenzer Festspiele. He attracted much notice with special projects such as the concert/lecture “Hearing Peace” in 2009, as well as the guest concert of “Picnic in the Field” in Cyprus that same year. In 2017 the “Concert for Human Rights” was held in the Stefaniensaal in Graz. 2015 saw him guesting with the Bruckner Orchestra and Bruckner´s Fourth Symphony at the Wiener Musikverein.

Ingensand enjoys working with young people, either with concerts for the “education department MOVE ON”, or as Guest Conductor for the “Basel Sinfonietta”, as guest lecturer in Winterthur and Zurich, or working with his conducting class at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz.

The lecturer for conducting, composition and music theory has also made a name for himself as a composer: 2010 Ingo Ingensand was commissioned to compose a work for the opening of the International Bruckner Festival Linz (“Die Bringer Beethovens”). In the same year he saw the world premiere of his first symphony at the Brucknerhaus – conducting the Bruckner Orchestra himself.

In October 2016 the world premiere of his violin concerto took place with the concert master of the Vienna Philharmonic Albena Danailova as the soloist. One month later he was awarded the State Culture Prize of Upper Austria for composition.
